An Interdepartmental Major

A major in architecture offers the opportunity for study of architectural history and practice through aninterdisciplinary program. Following the ancient Roman architect Vitruvius’ advice on the education of thearchitect, the program encourages students to familiarize themselves with a broad range of subjects in thehumanities, sciences, and social sciences. Students may also elect courses in studio art, mathematics, andphysics that lead to the appreciation of the principles of design and the fundamental techniques ofarchitecture.
